The intern will be assigned to the Risk Delivery Team. The Risk Delivery Team is not your typical Oliver Wyman team. For a start, we focus on implementation rather than strategy. And we have big ambitions to change the way people think about implementation consulting. But, it’s not just what we do that makes us different; it’s how we do it. Here are some examples of the type of work we do:

• Work to build, operate and maintain a short, medium and long-term fundamental supply/demand model for the European power and gas market
• Work with the Market Analysis to coordinate methodology, utilising existing infrastructure
• Distribute this analysis and views in a timely, structured and pro-active manner
• Perform market analysis on a reactive basis in response to requests from the trading desks, in particular with regards to market implications
• Own and drive the development of this Short, Medium and Long-Term power and gas market analysis work, ensuring analysis is focused on delivering practical business benefits
• Integrate analysis into the company’s decision-making process
• Collaboratively and proactively work with the other parts of the global businesses and external contacts to broaden knowledge and enhance analysis
• Utilise technology to increase the efficiency and automation of market analysis including capturing and interpreting data and producing reports/tools for the business.
Requirements:
• Graduate with a Bachelor, Masters or PhD degree in mathematics, science, engineering, computer science, economics, quantitative or related field from a leading university
• Prior experience in an energy market trading environment at utilities, producers or trading houses preferred
• Passion for Energy Markets and creating Market Fundamental Analysis is a must
• Good knowledge of energy economics
• Strong knowledge of the European Energy Markets
• Very strong numerical and analytical skills

We develop advanced analytics and AI solutions and provide consulting to our internal and external clients. We collaborate closely with international business units and various central units, like Innovation and IT. Depending on the profile and previous experiences of the student, multiple different options are available in our division:
- Hands-on advanced data analyses using latest AI techniques, machine learning and statistical methods

Profile of wanted intern:
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, quantitative finance, computer science, data science, or a related fields (incl. business administration and economics with a quantitative focus)
- Strong background in mathematics and statistics
- Strong knowledge of data science/ AI or data engineering methods
- Knowledge of at least one analytical programming language (e.g. Python, R)
- Excellent communication, presentation and organization skills; high degree of motivation and hands-on mentality
Languages knowledge: Business proficiency in English is required
Other requirements: Students from countries outside the EU require a German residence-/work permit.
Start date of the internship is flexible in agreement with the supervisor. The preferred duration is 6+ months, but it should not be shorter than 4 months. A part-time internship option can be discussed, however the initial 3 months need to be full-time.
Benefits: Internship remuneration is 2300€/ month before taxes (for full-time interns) + free lunch at Munich Re office.
