FULL IMMERSION EXPERIENCE

BERTINORO 2022

Introduction

After two Summer Schools (in Bologna 2020 and Katowice 2021) as well as Summer Training in Katowice (2021), the main focus of the Full Immersion Experience was putted on close cooperation among practitioners, researches and students. The programme assumed an interdisciplinary perspective for assessing and understanding greening energy markets and finance in a form of 3 didactic tracks to achieve a synergy effect between business and academia.

For the 2022 edition we started from 3 case studies (that mirrored three tracks) that were developed and delivered by business partners (the cohort was split in three parts):

  • Track 1 – Renewable Technologies - Case Study: A Biomethane Plant and Green Hydrogen – proposed by Hera Group, Italy
  • Track 2 – Environmental Finance - Case Study: Greek and Iberian Electricity Markets Innovations in RES: Adaptation to the climate change - proposed by Ego Energy
  • Track 3 – Climate & Business - Case Study: Construction of an Microgrid Cooperating with a Residential Estate and Installation for Refueling Buses with Hydrogen – proposed by Tauron Polska Energia

Then the lectures from university partners were proposed to support a theoretical development of the case studies. Afterwards firstly the Professionals discussed with case study Experts potential solutions for the proposed case studies, then Students joined and with the support of Professionals, working in diversified groups, solved the case studies.

Testimonials

Students Trainees

Name University
Daniel Nelham Birkbeck University of London The Professors and practitioners managed to strike the perfect tone of ‘care for the environment, care for our community and care for our future!’ …Within the beautiful setting of Bertinoro they taught us about the tools we needed to help both finance and manage the risks of climate change, and encouraged us to become the agents of change to help improve the world we live in! Yes, the importance of having a profitable operation was essential for perpetuating the Green Energy Transitions... but never should we forget that humanity comes before the profit! The energy between Students, Professors and industry practitioners was vibrant, creative and collaborative! - Everybody worked together to meet the time pressured deadline of presenting their solutions on the final day. This was metaphorical of the climate change problem as a whole... together we can do this! The GrEnFIn Full Immersion Experience will forever have a place in my heart, and I will do my best to live up to the high expectations they set for us all.
Danmeng Huang Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München The GrEnFIn Full Immersion Experience was a fantastic experience and we learned a lot about Green Finance. Not only did we hear great lectures from the professors, but we also had the opportunity to work in small groups on Case Studies. The discussions with experts in different fields gave us a new understanding of Green Energy. Thank you again for organizing such a great Summer School!
Ayman Rouass Paris Dauphine Amazing experience! It was very well organised from the beginning to the end, with helpful and committed staff (hi to Giulia and Viola). The lecturers were perfectly chosen, and their lectures were in adequation with the GrEnFIn topic. The full immersion’s environment was wonderful because of the location, but mostly because of all the amazing students and professionals. It was perfect throughout all the immersion, I strongly recommend this experience!
Giorgio Bongermino University of Bologna This was an amazing opportunity to deepen my knowledge of climate finance and be exposed to some frontier problems, through lectures by the main researcher in this area, coming from all Europe. Moreover, this was an incredible experience from a human perspective since we could bond with student coming from all the world, enlarging our perspective and horizons.
Riccardo Larese Filon University of Bologna GrEnFIn Full Immersion Experience was a very interesting experience that I highly recommend to all those interested in Green Finance. A unique opportunity to increase own knowledge on the subject and to share own experiences with other students and professionals.
Giulia Nadalini University of Bologna The GrEnFIn Full Immersion Experience it’s an opportunity not to be missed. You can succeed this experience even if you are not familiar with green finance - you can prepare yourselves in advance thanks to some introductory lectures that are uploaded on the platform. It is not only a good way to learn more about this topic but also to enter in a new international environment.

Professional Trainees

Name University
Gerardo Scarpinati Atos The joint venture between professional and students was a plus for sure. This contamination helped the students by giving them some examples about the challenges they have to face in their future work-life, and on the other side the professional to get updated about the university trends on the sustainability-related topics.
Eleni Founti SPEED Development Consultants S.A. A truly inspiring and very well-organized experience with the right mixture of students and professionals. As a professional, I am grateful to the organizers and all participants of the immersion event in Bertinoro under the GrEnFIn project for the opportunity to expand my knowledge and to further familiarise myself with best practices on green energy, sustainable finance, economic policy and business in a broad market context. Very highly recommended to interested parties in green energy and finance.
Ana García Garre MIWenegia GrEnFIn summer experience was a great opportunity to meet new people with the same interests and exchange some ideas about green energy and sustainability. As an engineer, the cases study was very interesting and helped me to understand the financial involvement of this topic.
Tobia Desalvo HERA S.p.A. I am very glad for meeting keen, enthusiastic, clever people, fond of knowledge and striving to do their best, in a friendly international milieu. Moreover, as a professional, I could spend time to learn in depth about an interesting and useful topic and cooperate with students and supervisors.
Joanna Czubala TAURON Polska Energia S.A. This innovative and interdisciplinary Program enthralled me. Trainers

Name Company
Silvia Romagnoli University of Bologna A brilliant and very focused class, stimulated a deep sharing debate about urgent topics strictly related to sustainability and climate change risk measurement and hedging. Moreover, Bertinoro is the perfect location to favor cross-fertilization and synergies among academics, students and professionals as well.
Andrea Mazzon LMU The Full Immersion Experience in Bertinoro has been great from all points of view: very interesting lectures on different topics, attractive case studies and a very good mix and interplay between theory and practice. Noting how much trainees were involved both in the lectures and in the solution of case studies, working as team, has been a great pleasure. Not least, having the possibility of spending free time with students has been a very nice opportunity of knowing better each-other also from a personal point of view.
Helyette Geman Birkbeck, University of London The Full Immersion Experience was wonderful and Bertinoro was indeed a magic combination of Science, very friendly atmosphere and a perfect landscape. The University of Bologna and UEK deserve most of the credit!

In line with the key elements of the Innovation Union and the EU Higher Education Modernisation Agenda, the GrEnFIn Erasmus+/Knowledge Alliance project aims to provide the Energy Sector's stakeholders (energy providers, private companies, research institutes) the figure of the Sustainable Energy experts professional, i.e. European high skilled professionals capable to face the changing challenges in the field with an inclusive global logic. Its main expected results are the development of an innovative Joint Master Degree in the Green Energy and Finance targeting young students, but also a Professional Module to train companies' staff and experts already active in the labor market.
